The Solutions Architect (SA) will report to SVP, Director of Information Systems and be responsible for identifying, implementing and maintaining technology used in all aspects of Alger’s business. It is expected that the SA will develop database architecture & code to maximize the use of such technology and allow multiple applications to “communicate” with each other. The SA will work with all areas of the firm (Investments, Trading, Compliance etc). As such, the SA will be required to have a sufficient understanding of the “business” of an investment management firm and be charged with managing the applications for such business.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Analyze current business processes and assess the effectiveness of existing technology used to support such business processes
  • Develop, monitor, and maintain applications and databases used in the information technology environment
  • Be aware of alternative technologies and recommend them to improve the business and technical  environment
  • Extract, validate, analyze and present  data in the required form (for instance BI tools, database report, MS Excel worksheet, PDF document, XML document, HTML page)
  • Transform loosely defined data into structured forms
  • Define and implement security requirements as necessary

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • 8+ years’ experience in corporate Information Technology environment
  • Investment Management (Equities), Mutual Fund or Hedge Fund experience required
  • Experience with portfolio management, trading, market data entities and concepts (portfolios, holdings, trades, securities, analytics, benchmarks, etc.)
  • A strong history of academic excellence
  • Microsoft SQL Server certification preferred

Skills:

  • Constructively communicate with coworkers
  • Expert Microsoft SQL server and SQL Azure with knowledge of Stored procedures, sophisticated query design, database structure design Expert SSDT, and SQL Client Drivers programming skills
  • Expert Entity Framework, Windows Communication Foundation (ODATA), CLR Integration and SQLXML programming skills
  • Working knowledge of workflows between Order Management, Portfolio Accounting & Mutual Fund Accounting systems
  • Experience with  Advent Axys and Charles River preferred
  • Expert Microsoft Power BI and SSRS knowledge
  • Knowledge of FactSet highly desired
  • Knowledge of ASP.NET, MVC, web API, JSON, Java Script and AJAX technologies
  • Knowledge of Visual Studio programming in C#, VB
  • Knowledge of Microsoft web servers: IIS, SharePoint
  • Knowledge of Enterprise Service Bus technologies
  • Knowledge of workflow products (Agilepoint) preferred
  • Knowledge of developer collaboration tools (Microsoft Team Foundation Server (TFS)
