Graduate Internal Audit Trainee, up to £40,000, Banking, London

Londres, Angleterre, Royaume-Uni

The post-financial crisis banking landscape is one where risk and controls professionals find themselves in a position of greater influence than ever before and in greater demand than ever before. The increase in financial services regulation and the desire to avoid repeating the mistakes of the past, means that professions like internal audit are now career paths which attract some of the brightest and best in the market.

A large UK Banking Group is creating an opportunity within its well respected internal audit team for a bright and engaging graduate to join as a trainee. Joining a team of several hundred other audit professionals, you will learn the products and processes of the bank and gain detailed understanding of the role of internal audit and how it can add value to the control environment across the operations of the bank. You will become knowledgeable of Investment Banking, Corporate Banking, Retail and Consumer Banking, Credit Cards, and UK banking regulation, online and mobile banking and even Wealth Management.

Most internal audit departments hire people at entry level once they have qualified as accountants and pay around £50,000. This position will start you on your way to that goal without putting you through a formal training programme. There is a long term career in internal audit which will take you into some extremely well paid and senior positions.

Not many of these trainee opportunities exist and therefore the criteria for selection will be stringent. If you have excellent academics and some prior financial services experience then this will stand you in good stead. Knowledge of audit, risk or compliance will give you a distinct advantage as well. If you’ve begun training as an accountant then this will give you a different perspective and career trajectory.

Internal Audit is a very interactive job which requires excellent stakeholder management skills. You will have to be confident, diplomatic and emotionally intelligent to compliment your technical skills.
