We are a well-known and established global commodity trader, based in Central London with trading offices across the globe.

Job Summary:

This is a broad role in an agile trading company who have gone through dramatic growth over the last decade or so and are growing further.

The role reports to the UK Finance Director and sits within a light and nimble finance department who have a laid back, supportive, dynamic and collaborative approach with the rest of the organisation. This is a role central to the entire UK office, affording you significant and ongoing exposure to the FD, the MD, the traders, the risk team and the back office across multiple asset classes.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Product Control 

  • Producing Daily Profit and Loss (“PnL”) reports by strategy and reporting to traders and senior management
  • Working with Risk to analyse and explain any variances between trader estimates and final PnL
  • Providing traders with analysis on components of the PnL such as the daily cost of funding and LC fees charged to the trading books
  • Reconciling PnL reported to Frame / PnL Viewer and posting adjustments (reserves and reversible therein)

Daily Trade Accounting

  • Reconciling PnL between the ledger and the PnL produced by the trading system (including investigating and resolving any differences that arise)
  • Posting all realised trading journal entries for the company
  • Posting daily exchange margin journals
  • Daily reconciliation of all bank and exchange cash accounts

Month End

  • Ensuring all bank accounts and exchange cash accounts are fully reconciled and tie back to the bank statements
  • Posting month end PnL adjustment entries and ensuring that the ledger ties back to the trading system (once again any differences are investigated and adjusted accordingly)
  • Posting all month end account receivables and payables to the ledger
  • Posting all unrealised trades to the ledger
  • Reconciliation of all counterparty margins
  • Reconciliation of asset and liability accounts


  • Being the focal point for answering audit questions and providing our auditors with documentation to allow them to complete their work on a timely basis
  • Working with US based accounting and IT teams to improve processes, making sure everything is done as efficiently as possible and procedures are consistent across all entities
  • Monthly analysis of direct costs charged to the trading books

Candidate Requirements:

Education Level:     

  • Degree in a financial based subject
  • Qualified Chartered Accountant or equivalent professional qualification

Job Knowledge Requirements and Most Critical Job Skills:   


  • Public accounting and/or industry/commodity experience
  • Exposure to derivative accounting for swaps, options, forward physicals and structured transactions.
  • Commodity inventory accounting
  • Strong computer skills (esp. Excel; pivot tables and the ability to build complex models)
