Small Business Underwriter II

SUMMARY: Underwrites loans in accordance with bank policy and regulatory safety and soundness standards. An Underwriter II will be able to underwrite more complex lending arrangements such as those involving Real Estate secured properties. Additionally, the Underwriter II will serve as a resource for less experienced Underwriters. Products include those outlined in BankUnited Credit Procedures and are facilitated within the designated lending thresholds set by BankUnited Credit Policy.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Processes new loan requests, renewals and modifications by reviewing applications, credit histories, collateral and relationship with bank (other accounts).

* Seeks higher approval authority when required by Total Corporate Exposure or policy exceptions.

* Evaluates request for credit, approves or denies based on authority level within accepted bank policies/procedures and applicable regulatory guidelines.

* Determines terms and acceptability of risk of prospective business lines.

* Prepares term sheets outlining the approved terms and conditions for all real estate secured loans.

* Provides support to loan officers, branches and/or loan processors by answering queries and providing training on basic lending issues.

* Possesses and utilizes the ability to evaluate data and make decisions required based on high risk factors.

* Specifies conditions for loan approval to loan officer.

* Submits declined loans to manager for second review.

* Analyzes personal and business tax returns and completes debt service worksheet.

* May be assigned to facilitate the FICO refresh process and/or delinquency management.

* EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: College degree preferred. 4-6 years related experience as a junior underwriter. Ability to analyze personal and business tax returns and perform a cash flow analysis, Prior Lending authority with formal credit training. .
