The Federal Reserve is developing a new interbank 24x7x365 real-time gross settlement (RTGS) service with integrated clearing functionality, called the FedNow service. This service will help enable financial institutions to provide their customers with the ability to send and receive payments any time, any day, and have full access to those funds within seconds.  This position is a unique opportunity to be part of a new mission-critical Federal Reserve initiative that will be transformative to the payments landscape in the United States.

Position Contributions

The Product & Pricing Senior Data Analyst is responsible for interpreting data, performing exploratory analytics, and communicating insights to team members and stakeholders, in support of product and pricing initiatives.  The role will manage a portfolio of data related initiatives, which will include building models, identifying how to best manage data in support of the product roadmap, using data to drive business decisions, and ensuring effective data governance. The data analyst will provide data analytics to address governance, legal, payments policy, marketing, and compliance matters for the FedNowSM service.

 What will be expected of you

  • Work with others on the FedNow Product team to develop a project based analytics roadmap that supports product and pricing initiatives

  • Identify appropriate sources of data to support business needs and advance the analytics roadmap, including relevant payment volumes and values, as well as market and industry trends

  • Gather, cleanse, transform, and store data in support of analytical projects, often in partnership with other groups and individuals

  • Perform exploratory data analysis, including visual and statistical analytics, to identify trends and other useful information in support of projects related to the FedNow Service

  • Present results and findings in written reports or through oral presentations using visual aids

  • Manage model change process to ensure that model changes are appropriately documented and approved

  • Design and build models / algorithms using a variety of tools and techniques to drive predictive & prescriptive analytics to accelerate business decisions and drive real-time analytical insights (i.e. pricing strategies for the FedNow Service)

  • Build analytics tools and interactive reports and dashboards that utilize the data pipeline to provide actionable insights into customer acquisition, operational efficiency and other key business performance metrics

  • Present results and findings in written reports or through oral presentations using visual aids

  • Develop into a business subject matter expert to support the day-to-day business and other projects, including those related to functionality development or enhancements to the FedNow Service

  • Actively participate in or lead workgroups and meetings at the department or Bank level.

  • Develop and maintain business and technical documentation

  • Assist in designing and implementing data strategy and management, and metrics for tracking KPIs

  • Monitor data quality and track issues, providing measurement

Expertise you would bring

  • 5+ years in a data analyst role with a degree in Computer Science, Economics, Finance, Statistics, Informatics, Information Systems or another quantitative field

  • Demonstrated experience using complex databases and statistical packages (e.g. SQL, Stata, Matlab, SAS, R, Gauss, TSP, RATS, PROCSQL), or other significant computer programming experience (Python, Java, C++, Mathematica, etc.)

  • Experience using BI or data visualization tools (Tableau, Looker, Datorama, etc.) and SQL implementations

  • Experience managing, manipulating, and optimizing large data sets with structured and unstructured data

  • Ability to effectively work remotely and across teams

Its added value if you have

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to quickly gather, analyze and synthesize information
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with ability to express ideas in a clear, concise and compelling manner and tailor communications for different audiences
  • Banking and payments experience, especially knowledge of ACH, FED or CHIPS payments processing and formats, and clearing and settlement is strongly preferred
  • Detail-oriented and capable self-starter with the ability to explore innovative ways to perform tasks in an efficient and timely manner as an individual and in a team environment
  • Excellent relationship management and collaboration skills including the ability to influence and build consensus across teams; demonstrated experience delivering successful outcomes on projects involving multiple stakeholders with differing / diverging interests highly desired
  • Strong project management skills to include organization, planning, and execution with the ability to manage various tasks simultaneously and work under tight deadlines with conflicting priorities, while providing high quality products
  • Understanding of data management and governance principles and best practices

  • May include remote working arrangements and some required travel, which will vary during project phases

The second phase, which might not be complete until after you begin working at the Reserve Bank, is an additional risk-based security screening determined by the risk rating of the position.  Depending upon the sensitivity of the position, this phase may include, and is not limited to, work and residency eligibility verification, and personal interviews with the candidate, references, and prior employers.  

All applicants must have resided in the United States for at least three (3) years.
