We fulfill this role through:
  • Ensuring complete, accurate and timely P&L, Balance Sheets and analysis;
  • The independent validation of the value of our trading portfolios;
  • Working with the businesses and the new business product groups to evaluate & integrate new products and businesses into our financial environment in a controlled manner;
  • The provision of reliable and meaningful financial information to the business managers, external stakeholders and other relevant internal constituents.

Individuals are responsible for the analysis and advisory aspects of Product Control's primary role which is the financial guardianship of the Bank's sales and trading activities, advising and independently challenging key stakeholders on accounting and valuation matters impacting the financial statements, including daily P&L and balance sheet movements. They are also responsible for any aspects of inventory valuation and control not covered by dedicated Line Valuation Product Controllers and also for providing input into the development and improvement of strategic systems and implementation and continuous improvement at a local level in terms of process and EUCs.

This role supports the Rates Products within the Valuation Risk and Control Division. Products traded include fixed Income Instruments: Bonds, Interest Rate Swaps, Swaptions, and Listed IR products. The Product Controller will work closely with the trading desk, trade support, technology, financial control and other infrastructure areas to ensure timely and accurate reporting of the trading desks' results including daily P&L reporting, management commentaries, and exception processing.

In particular PC Business Finance Officers:
  • You are responsible for ensuring complete, accurate and timely P+L and Balance Sheets;
  • You will manage key processes like: daily P+L analysis and commentary, risk based P&L analysis and commentary, new trade review, cancel & corrects analysis, Clean P&L exceptions, monthly and quarterly production, which includes Fair value leveling, multi GAAP and IFRS Journal Account Ownership, Monthly P&L and Balance Sheet commentary, Book Management, Legal Entity and Regulatory Reporting and Accounting Policy implementation;
  • You will manage relationships with key stakeholder groups including FO, RAR and Group Finance;
  • You will provide control reporting, which includes appropriate Escalation of issues, Audit Points, Control Improvement Points, Incident Reporting and SOX documentation and reporting.

In addition the role will perform a number of month-end and mid-month valuation control functions and reporting of the results.

Product Controllers must be highly attentive to risk and the importance of a strong control environment and show a high attention to detail in all aspects of their work. They must also possess highly developed analytic, interpersonal and communication skills to enable them to develop relationships with their key clients and to understand and address their issues.

In addition, you should have the following skills and experience:
  • Do you have 2 - 3 years of financial service, banking or accounting experience?
  • You have PC skills including Excel (essential), Peoplesoft Financials, and Essbase as well as comfort with manipulation and presentation of financial data;
  • Ideally, you graduated with a math based or accounting major;
  • Team player, dedicated, self-starter, who can be dynamic and implement process changes;
  • Derivatives Experience a plus.
