Macquarie Capital is seeking a talented Operational Risk professional to join their team in New York.

 

Work side-by-side with deal teams to ensure operational risk is appropriately addressed and managed within the Macquarie Capital ("MacCap") business globally. Macquarie Capital is a truly global business with staff in 37 offices across 22 locations. The teams work on some of the largest and most high-profile transactions providing you with broad exposure, variety and the opportunity to apply your expertise in a truly commercial context.

Reporting directly to the global lead BORM, your understanding of operational risk management will help you develop successful operational risk frameworks, drive a strong risk management culture and provide expert advice to senior leaders and teams across the regions. Based in New York, you will interact with the regional Macquarie Capital senior management team as well as with Macquarie’s broader Risk Management group on a regular basis.

Key aspects of the role include:

  • Execution and monitoring of risk management practices, investigation of operational issues and control breakdowns in MacCap
  • Design and complete control assurance testing on critical controls and present result to senior management
  • Providing risk guidance on various business projects and ensuring appropriate frameworks are in place to manage project and business risks
  • Assessing new product and business opportunities for operational risks, providing guidance on the approval of these activities, and ensuring post completion conditions to approval are implemented effectively
  • Implementing operational risk frameworks and a strong risk management culture providing expert operational risk advice
  • Assisting businesses in the scoping and deployment of significant business enhancements, such as new system implementations, to ensure operational risks have been considered and mitigated
  • Proactively identifying operational risks and assessing the adequacy of controls to manage such risks, including recommending enhanced or additional controls
  • Partnering with all areas of the business to ensure they clearly understand their role in relation to effective operational risk management and conducting training and education as appropriate
  • Engaging with stakeholders in the Risk Management Group (RMG), in particular members of the RMG Operational Risk and RMG Compliance teams
  • Working with support areas such as operations, finance, settlements, risk management and technology in ensuring a high level of control is maintained

About you:

  • You will have previous experience (6-10 years) in an operational risk management environment or related role, e.g. internal audit
  • Have the ability to contribute to conversations with business leaders and risk management colleagues regarding anticipated and emerging issues
  • Demonstrate ability to independently analyse complex processes/ issues and write/ present clear and concise reports
  • Be numerate, able to problem solve and drive issues through to completion
  • Display a professional work approach, work independently, be highly visible and provide transparency of process to clients and the team
  • Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills and display initiative to lead discussions with operational staff at all levels, business leaders and risk management colleagues
  • Possess detailed knowledge of control processes and best practice in relevant controls
