The Responsible Investment team is structured to oversee Nuveen's approach to Responsible Investment, as defined through four key areas including ESG Integration, Active Ownership & Engagement, Market Development, and Transparency & Disclosure. The team ensures that all ESG-focused and impact investment capabilities and products align with our market-leading standards and drive implementation of best practices in ESG integration through partnership with Nuveen affiliate investment teams.

About the Position

TIAA Investments is seeking an ESG Data & Metrics Manager to join their Responsible Investment team. The ideal candidate is expected to have a solid work experience with market data, interacting with research vendors and a strong background and interest in problem solving, quantitative skills, analytics and working both independently and collaboratively. The individual should be able to provide examples of leadership/project ownership and concrete results. The candidate should be comfortable with complex data and building new systems in an efficient process that will support a wide range of business needs and priorities.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Key liaison with research companies, index calculators and other partners to develop and maintain rules-based approach and provide quality assurance and quality control (QA / QC) for data that is central to the firm's ESG and impact investing products and solutions
  • Serve as point for ESG team on overall ESG data management and proprietary processes underpinning the firm's ESG investment capabilities, as well as cross-cutting thematic initiatives related to the overall Responsible Investment program for the asset management organization
  • Partner with ESG colleagues to design and implement data processes (extraction, updates, incorporation into investment approaches) in support of ESG integration among investment research and portfolio management teams
  • Work with Risk Management and other colleagues to develop and maintain internal protocols and systems related to ESG issues
  • Support ESG team on other data needs related to reporting, disclosure, business development, business intelligence/competitive positioning, etc.
Required Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of overall business experience with at least 2 years of market data experience preferred
  • Bachelor degree or job equivalent of not less than 7 years
  • Strong data analytics and quantitative skills
  • Experience with market data management applications (i.e. FITS, MDSL, Tableau, etc.)
  • Experience working in asset management or financial services industry

Desired Skills and Experience:
  • Supervisory (project leadership) experience is preferred.
  • Use and understanding of key Market Data suppliers such as Bloomberg, FactSet, Thomson Reuters a plus
  • Self-managed and results-oriented
  • Strong oral and written communications skills
  • Team player, detail oriented, able to multi-task and prioritize effectively
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • High service orientation, integrity, discretion and follow through
  • Ability to work across broad, diverse groups; demonstrates the ability to collaborate and develop/maintain internal and external relationships
