Responsibilities

Insurance strategists will initially need to be capable of undertaking a significant number of the activities below and will be trained to be able to undertake them all: -

  • Developing a thorough knowledge of BlackRock’s capabilities, products and services
  • Supporting all internal portfolio management and product strategy teams, and all distribution channels across the platform, with insurance regulatory, accounting and liability expertise
  • Providing analytics and marketing materials to support the product sales process
  • Undertaking asset allocation work to help inform clients’ investment strategy and providing support for client advisory assignments
  • Developing and implementing new modelling and analytics capabilities
  • Producing market analytics of importance to insurance clients and insurance portfolio management
  • Assisting client servicing teams, portfolio managers and product specialists with their support of existing mandates with insurers
  • Supporting clients undergoing M&A or legacy book activity with investment-related transaction support
  • Helping develop appropriate investment and risk management strategies and products for insurers
  • Providing business support to the team

Qualifications

Knowledge/Experience:

  • 3+ years’ work experience within a financial services firm, with a significant focus on insurance companies
  • A strong undergraduate degree and evidence of effective progress with a relevant professional qualification
  • An understanding of insurers’ capital modelling, ALM and asset allocation frameworks and the quantitative models and techniques that they use to support their business
  • An understanding of the accounting, regulatory, risk management and strategic frameworks under which insurers operate
  • A core understanding of the operation and applicability of derivatives to insurance companies
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex topics to non-technical individuals, both verbally and in writing
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities, intellectual curiosity, and experience understanding and solving complex issues;
  • High level of integrity enabling the candidate to become a trusted partner to clients and peers
