Senior Director, Compensation

The Sr. Director, Compensation for Santander Consumer operates in a matrixed organizational structure, functionally reports to the US Head of Compensation and Benefits and locally to the Santander Consumer CHRO. Collaborates to design and deliver HR value added services for various disciplines within Compensation (e.g. Executive Comp., Incentive Comp, LOB Comp, Regulatory) across the US and in alignment with business and HR objectives. S/he assess trends and best practices to proactively implement solutions that drive business success. The position calls for the design, development, implementation, and management of Compensation, Total Rewards and HR systems as well as applicable Compliance and Risk mitigation framework.

Responsibility Statements

Consults with all levels of management to design compensation (Executive, IC, LOB) programs that address business needs, maintain a competitive position in the market and remain fiscally responsible with the company-s resources. Program design will be a collaborative effort with US colleagues playing an influential role; design SC specific solutions seeking support from US Comp team as needed.

Provides administrative oversight of the employee compensation practices, policies, and programs. Ensure compliance with all Group/Corporate policies, laws, regulations. Proactively mitigate Risk and anticipate and plan for Audit requirements.

Actively participates in the preparation of Board materials and presentations; as required may present updates to the Board and/or seek approval for programs/policies.

Designs and manages compensation programs including base salary structures, variable and short-term incentive plans.

Evaluates existing programs, strategies and philosophies; make recommendations to enhance or change programs to improve employee value proposition, drive and support business goals and results, hire and retain employees.

Oversees administration of programs through direct reports.

Manages the implementation, administration, and communication of compensation programs. Provides management reporting.

Has a vested interest in applicable integrated compensation systems - will play an active role in customization and implementation of systems.

Manages the annual compensation review process with focus on the merit, bonus and equity distribution.

Oversees manager, Talent Acquisition/ HRBPs /other HR functions, and employee trainings as created and administered by compensation team to ensure understanding of compensation philosophy, policy, procedures, appropriate decisions by managers and management of compensation budgets.

Provides advanced compensation consultation as needed to business leaders, Talent Acquisition Team and HR Business Partners regarding compensation packages and decisions and compensation strategy.

Assesses industry compensation practices and changing legal issues and regulation and communicate their potential impact on the business and make recommendations for change as needed.

Maintains understanding of applicable laws and regulations, including FLSA, Equal Pay Act; applicable laws and regulations for public company etc.

Develops policies or procedures in conjunction with Legal to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Provides coaching and feedback to direct reports. Manage team(s) of compensation professionals; support development and career advancement, make personnel related decisions. Administrative responsibilities for local total rewards team members (compensation, benefits, and payroll).

Education (required):

  • Bachelor-s Degree in HR, business, finance, or related field or equivalent work experience.

Work Experience (Required):

  • 12-15 years in HR /Compensation or related role.
  • Knowledge/experience of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Knowledge/experience working in HRIS systems and HRIS Comp. modules.

Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and capable of prioritizing work in a fast-moving environment.

Proficient technology and computer skills, with the ability to effectively use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint)

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to create and deliver high quality finished work products

Ability to analyze and interpret large amounts of data and articulate clear and effective observations and recommendations
