SWIB is seeking an experienced Accountant to join its Fund Accounting Team to independently perform accounting procedures, research, and oversight of third party accounting and reporting service providers for a variety of complex accounting activities.

Essential activties:

  • Direct and validate accounting by SWIB's custodian bank
  • Administer/oversse the daily and monthly accounting and reporting activities
  • Document and assess financial reporting and operational risks
  • Monitor and stay abreast of accounting and investment policy as well as industry changes/events impacting assigned specialized areas (i.e. Accounting Book of Record, Private Markets, Tax Operations)
  • Anticipate and assess impacts on assigned areas in terms of risks, controls, productivity and downstream effect as issues and events occur 
  • Be the primary accounting and reporting point of contact within the assigned specialized area to work with process owners, services providers, advisors, administrators, and other interested parties, informing them of the issues/events and gathering necessary information and guidance on industry best practices
  • Establish and maintian service level agreements and key performance metrics 

The ideal candidate will have: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
  • 5 or more years accounting, auditing, or related experience 
  • CPA designation preferred
  • Thorough understanding of GASB/FASB preferred
  • Investment accounting experience a plus
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite with strong Excel skills
  • Creative problem solving skills with the ability to work independently
  • Abiltiy to acccurately convey information, strategic or technical in nature, in an effective way both verbally and in writing 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • An ability to be adpative and thrive in a fast-paced, changing environment

The position requires U.S. work authorization and residency in, or willingness to relocate to, the Madison, Wisconsin area. SWIB is prepared to offer relocation assistance as needed.
