Software Engineer - Backend (SME)

As a Software Engineer at Airwallex we will challenge you to take a sophisticated, globally distributed, multi-vertical banking platform and distill it into an intuitive, uncluttered, delightful user experience. Working in a cross-functional team, you have the opportunity for direct input into the design and direction of our award-winning product.

What you'll do and the impact you'll have:
Our team has broad technical ownership and you'll have opportunities to contribute right across the stack, from application-facing APIs to the core banking platform, and its underlying cloud infrastructure. You'll be asked to contribute to domain, service and state machine modelling, and be expected to deliver to the performance and security standards that are so critical to our global fintech platform.

Our tech stack is based primarily around React micro-frontends, Kotlin micro-services, PostgreSQL, Kafka, and Kubernetes / GKE. We use Gitlab for CI and follow a Gitops-based CD model, with all infrastructure automation managed by Terraform.

Your day to day life at Airwallex is within a cross-functional product engineering team, with product, design, and all engineering roles represented. What you'll bring:
    • Strong computer science fundamentals
    • Strong Java or other object oriented programming development skills. We're using Kotlin, Spring / Spring Boot.
    • A documentation-first approach to communicating your ideas
    • A cloud-native background on either GCP (preferred) or AWS.
    • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes is a strong advantage
    • Hands-on experience assembling and maintaining continuous integration and delivery systems
    • Experience developing high volume distributed systems, and using event driven architectures
    • Experience with a range of API protocols, such as REST, GraphQL, GRPC and JSON-RPC
    • Experience with observability tools such as New Relic, Prometheus, or Grafana
