Job Description Review and approve rating methodologies translations:
  • Review rating methodology translations and compare them to the English version.
  • Provide comments, verify that translations are valid, revise translations as necessary, and approve translations.
  • The translation review focuses on the accuracy of the text and confirms that it fits within the context of the surrounding text.
  • Make minor editorial changes (fix typos, adjust vocabulary and sentence structure) and raise any significant language issues (clearly explained) with translators.
  • Consult with designated Ratings & Research (R&R) lead analyst on any technical questions.
  • Approve final translation in CMS in a timely manner and notify Methodology Development Group (MDG) of final approval (MDG will handle publication).
  • Help translators understand editorial changes and apply them to future works to improve translators' translating and editing skills.
  • For Spanish methodology translations, ensure that Mexican Spanish has been used.

Perform quality checks on PR and research translations:
  • Review PR and research translations and provide comments, verify that translations are valid, and revise translations as necessary.
  • Responsible for proofreading (for spelling, word usage, grammar, punctuation and syntax) and editing PR and research translations with high market impact translated from English to Spanish or Portuguese by translators, focusing on clarity of messaging.
  • Address flaws on a grammatical and technical level to make sure the final published document reads smoothly and consistently, according to Moody's standards.
  • Consult with designated R&R lead analyst on any technical or style/preference questions.
  • May flag questions, but is not a fact-checker and is not responsible for factual accuracy, which lies with the rating group.
  • Foster partnerships with the analysts and their teams to ensure feedback loop on quality and consistency of translations.
  • Help translators understand editorial changes and apply them to future works to improve translators' translating and editing skills.

Work closely with the Process Owner to ensure continuous process improvement:
  • Help with the monitoring and tracking of process performance against key performance indicators.
  • Ensure quality checks are performed at target levels and regulatory requirements are continuously met.
  • Ensure feedback loop to translators and from analytical teams are in place.
  • Maintain Spanish and Portuguese glossaries in a centralized location to ensure translation consistency.
Work closely with the Process Owner, translators, and analytical teams to ensure timely translations.

  • At least 3-5 years of experience in financial journalism or financial writing, and proven record in editing financial, economic or corporate finance research and information.
  • Strong copy-editing skills; experience with analytical content.
  • Broad understanding of finance, capital markets, fundamental and structured finance sectors and credit risk.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in economics, finance, communications, journalism, business or related discipline.

Technical Skills:
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel and Access a plus.
  • Experience with Methode or other content management system is a plus.
  • Experience with Trados and Amazon Translate a plus.

Non-Technical Skills:
  • Fluency in English, Spanish and Portuguese is a must.
  • Willingness to demonstrate an understanding of rating methodologies used by the Fundamental and Structured Finance Group in the Latin American region.
  • Willingness to become an expert on Moody's style.
  • Ability to proofread final drafts.
  • Effectively edit clear, concise copy for publications.
  • Highly organized and efficient, with ability to multi-task, lead projects and meet tight deadlines.
  • Very strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build strong professional relationship at all levels.
  • Works well independently under pressure in a global, collaborative environment.
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with Moody's rating process and services; analyst workflow; compliance policies and procedures; rating business regulatory requirements is a plus.
