The Strategic Product Management (SPM) group’s mandate is to drive organic revenue growth by enhancing innovation and product development and by bringing strategic discipline and insight to the products we offer our clients. SPM is tasked with ensuring that BlackRock has an industry-leading product set to support our clients’ needs and the firm’s growth aspirations in all market environments. SPM partners closely with the various Investment Strategies Groups and Client Businesses to achieve the firm’s goals and objectives.



The functions of SPM include:



  • Developing and defining a clear product strategy for the firm based on varying time horizons reflecting the lifecycles of markets, client needs, and products

  • Enabling and cultivating a robust pipeline of innovative solutions for our clients that can competitively differentiate the firm and enhance its prospects for growth

  • Providing objective, rational analysis of each product's strengths and weaknesses to enable optimal decision making

  • Eliminating unprofitable and non-strategic products from the line-up so the firm can focus on the things that really matter to our clients

  • Managing a rigorous and globally consistent product development process to ensure every new product is of the highest quality and consistent with the firm's principles

  • Aligning the firm's resources behind BlackRock's key product priorities and serving as a critical connector of the firm's business units while driving decision making 


Scope of the role


We are seeking a high caliber and driven individual to contribute to Product Strategy and Product Development activity in respect of BlackRock’s Asia ex-Japan business. The position is based in Hong Kong, and will report to the Head of APAC SPM based in Hong Kong. Working alongside a team of around ten individuals located in Hong Kong / Taiwan / South Korea, the role would focus on initiatives relating to BlackRock’s Asia ex-Japan business. The role would also have the opportunity to contribute to broader APAC and global initiatives.
This is a fantastic role to build a broad knowledge of the asset management industry, and be part of a function that is a critical enabler of the ongoing growth of BlackRock’s platform in Asia.



Key responsibilities include: 



  • Research evolving markets and industry trends to inform ideation

  • Stay abreast of regulatory and other structural trends as to identify upcoming threats and opportunities

  • Acquire a knowledge of BlackRock’s investment and advisory capabilities

  • Support the creation and delivery of a strategic product roadmap for the Asia ex-Japan business

  • Facilitate alignment initiatives to engender debate around product prioritization

  • Support the design of new, innovative, industry-leading investment products

  • Monitor our AxJ product offering alongside competitors and markets to inform consideration of ongoing suitability, and trigger discussion

  • Lead projects that drive the end-to-end product development process, leveraging BlackRock’s global framework

  • Partner with the broader global SPM team to share ideas and collaborate on platform wide initiatives

Skills / Experience



  • 3+ years of relevant experience in the investment management industry or in financial services

  • Familiarity with the asset management industry, spanning across asset classes and client segments

  • Familiarity with Asia ex-Japan markets, and ideally cross border considerations

  • Familiarity with the operational infrastructure supporting investment products

  • Self-starter with a high degree of intellectual curiosity and willingness to challenge established thinking

  • Excellent communication skills and desire to build relationships across functions and with external parties

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment, and own delivery against tight deadlines and constraints

  • Have experience in researching, crafting and articulating strategic plans

  • Strong project management, organizational and problem solving skills

  • Attention to detail, while also able to grasp the bigger picture

  • Sound professionalism and discretion

  • Enjoys operating in an open, interactive, collegial environment

  • Directly related product development experience a significant plus 


Qualifications



  • Bachelor’s degree or higher

  • Business proficiency in English a must, other Asian languages a significant plus

  • Proficient in MS Office tools; familiarity with other finance industry tools a plus

  • Charted Financial Analyst or comparable qualification a plus
