Associate Director, Data Quality Lead - Data Enablement

Job Summary:

At Manulife, data is becoming a critical strategic focus. Delivering the right solutions to ensure all levels of management are making data-driven decisions is critical to Manulife's success. Sound data governance sets the foundation to ensure these solutions meet the business and analytical needs. These foundational frameworks are designed and supported by the Asia Data Office (ADO).

Data Enablement is charged with:

  • Data governance framework within Asia
  • Data quality and access oversight
  • Governance reporting and transparency
  • Communication and collaboration
  • The Data Quality Lead will have primary accountability over the data quality program for Asia.

Responsibilities:


Data Quality Program
  • Develop and implement the Data Quality Program from Data Quality dimension definition, Data Quality process, to Communication
  • Support rollout of data quality tools and automation

Data Quality Process
  • Define and implement operational processes
  • Roles & responsibilities matrix within ADO and business teams
  • Develop issue resolution process, including upstream/downstream reparation standards, alert/notification of quality issues, and empower business partners with self-service abilities for resolution
  • Continuously improve process

Data Quality Reporting
  • Data quality metrics defined
  • Demonstrate changes have addressed root cause of quality issue
  • Ensure data reporting is reliable, consistent and timely
  • Integrate into centralized Data Enablement reporting

Communication and collaboration
  • Develop content for the data quality program
  • Clear communications using dynamic methods, including videos and animation, online content, crowd-sourced processes and procedures

Strategy
  • Assist in development and implementation of Data Enablement framework and processes
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the Asia Data strategy
  • Support other team leads

Leadership
  • Lead by example and develop team culture which is Accountable, Innovative, and/or Service-minded
  • Mentor peers and indirect reports


Qualifications:
  • Degree or equivalent experience in Business, Economics, Finance, Actuarial, or Computer sciences
  • LOMA desired
  • 5+ years of progressive responsibility and accountability in one or more of:
    • Data quality / governance
    • Data Lake (or data warehouse) development
    • Data analytics / business intelligence
    • Development of organization-wide data policies and processes
  • Experience as a Project Manager or people manager is an asset
  • Understanding of following tools helpful:
    • Hadoop / Apache software, including Ranger & Atlas
    • Informatica tools, including BDQ
    • Data visualization, such as PowerBI, Qlikview, Tableau
    • Data management tools
    • Database tools such as SQL, Oracle, NoSQL
    • Analytics tools, such as SAS, R, Python
  • Demonstrated understanding of data management
  • Sound understanding of data quality methodologies and approach
  • Ability to interpret and translate terminology between technical and business users
  • Change champion - actively identify opportunities for improvement and ability to implement changes successfully
  • Collaborate with geographically and culturally diverse teams across various geographies
  • Self-sufficient
  • Effective presentation skills
  • Lead through coaching and mentorship
  • Above average written and oral communication skills in the English language
