About the Job
Our client, a Hong Kong-based tech-focused hedge fund with a strong track record in long-short equity, is seeking an Execution Trader to join its team. The firm has consistently outperformed the broader Asian equity long-short fund average. The fund focuses on technology sectors including US and Taiwan semiconductor stocks, AI supply chain, and US data centre infrastructure, with a nimble and conviction-driven investment approach.
In this role, you will be responsible for executing multi-asset trades across US, Hong Kong and China markets, working closely with Portfolio Managers to implement the firm's long-short equity strategy. You will gain hands-on exposure to a high-performing hedge fund environment, collaborating with a lean team of investment professionals and building relationships with brokers and counterparties globally.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute orders across US, Hong Kong and China markets using Bloomberg EMSX and other execution platforms, utilising algorithmic and discretionary strategies across equities, options, futures, and commodities
- Monitor intraday liquidity, volatility, and market microstructure to achieve best execution with minimal market impact
- Work directly with Portfolio Managers to understand trade urgency, exposure adjustments, hedging needs, and risk considerations
- Provide real-time market colour, flow insights, and identify potential execution risks; alert Portfolio Managers to significant price moves, unusual flows, and breaking news
- Maintain high awareness of global trading conditions, news catalysts, sector movements, and macro events; generate trading ideas by sourcing relevant news and research reports
- Manage relationships with brokers, algo providers, and execution platforms; conduct periodic broker reviews to analyse execution quality and cost efficiency
- Manage stock borrow program across all markets; negotiate rates and optimise inventory to minimise stock borrow costs
- Maintain trading system position holdings, P&L, and reports within the OMS; perform daily reconciliation
- Ensure all trades adhere to regulatory standards and internal compliance guidelines
Qualifications
- University degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related discipline from a reputable university
- Min. 2–5 years of equity execution trading experience at a buyside investment management firm or hedge fund
- Strong understanding of global equity microstructure across APAC and US markets
- Experience supporting long-short or long-biased investment strategies
- Proficiency with Bloomberg EMSX
- Strong attention to detail, disciplined, and able to multitask under pressure
- Exceptional communication skills and ability to work closely with Portfolio Managers and analysts
- Fluent in English; Mandarin strongly preferred
- Knowledge of VBA, Python, or SQL for automation and analysis is a plus
- Experience covering night shifts / US market hours is a plus
