Are you a true technology enthusiast who knows a thing or two about distributed systems? A market leading global FinTech company in Amsterdam is looking for a Java Developer - Technical Lead to guide their global development team.

You will be working in an R&D style environment, testing out new technologies and approaches. The team are working on a complex enterprise class application and are seeking a new colleague with a sound understanding of low level Java programming and a diverse technical background. You will be leading 2 teams of Front/Back-End Developers. The ideal person is able to make changes to a framework if it's needed to achieve desired results. They can design and maintain data models and business logic and can help to design and improve a CI/CD process.

This is an opportunity to play an influential role in a large scale initiative to modernise and scale a system used by banks and trading firms globally. Our client's data caches that currently handle around 1/2 a terabyte of data are approaching full capacity and need to be re-architected to ensure that they will meet future business needs.

Profile of a Java Developer - Development Lead

You are not a 'classical' developer: you embrace the chance to work with new technologies and enjoy being on a journey of discovery. You understand that your ideas may not always work out and are happy to 'go back to the drawing board' to find a solution that does. You enjoy working in a collaborative environment where everybody has the chance to make a contribution.

  • At least 10 years' experience working with core Java
  • Experience of developing highly scalable, distributed systems
  • Used to working on projects related to socket programming
  • Experience using open source frameworks like Apache Ignite, Apache Lucene, Apache Kafka, and MongoDB in a microservices architecture.
  • Some (technical) leadership or mentoring experience would be a big advantage
  • Experience of developing highly scalable, distributed systems
  • You love keeping up to date with technology and applying your new found knowledge in a complex business and technical environment
  • Excellent communication skills and an outgoing personality
  • MSc Computer Science or a related subject
