Cross-Commodity Trader | European Energy Markets

The Opportunity

Our client is an established proprietary energy trading business with a strong presence across European commodity markets. Due to a planned team restructuring, they are seeking a highly motivated Cross-Commodity Trader to join their trading desk in Prague.

This role offers the opportunity to manage and grow a proprietary trading book across multiple energy commodities, with significant autonomy, attractive risk limits, and a highly competitive profit-sharing structure. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying and executing trading opportunities across European gas, power, carbon, coal, and spreads markets while operating within clearly defined risk parameters.

The business promotes a collaborative and team-oriented culture, where traders are encouraged to share market insight and support one another, rather than operate in a highly competitive internal environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and grow a proprietary trading book across European energy markets.
  • Execute physical and financial trading strategies across:
    • Natural Gas
    • Power
    • EU ETS Carbon (CO₂)
    • Financial Coal
    • Clean Spark Spreads (CSS)
    • Clean Dark Spreads (CDS)
  • Identify and execute cross-commodity and cross-border trading opportunities.
  • Trade predominantly through major exchanges including EEX and ICE.
  • Monitor market fundamentals, macroeconomic drivers, and technical indicators to support trading decisions.
  • Manage positions in line with approved risk mandates and portfolio constraints.
  • Analyse and optimise complex portfolio structures across multiple commodities and geographies.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the trading team to share market intelligence and trading ideas.
  • Deliver consistent risk-adjusted returns while operating within established VaR limits.

Candidate Profile

✔ Demonstrated experience trading one or more of the following:

  • European Gas
  • European Power
  • Carbon (EU ETS)
  • Financial Coal
  • Energy Spreads (CSS/CDS)

✔ Strong understanding of European wholesale energy markets.

✔ Experience trading across multiple European regions, including:

  • Central Western Europe (CWE)
  • Central & Eastern Europe (CEE)

✔ Experience in the Italian market would be advantageous.

✔ Proven ability to manage complex trading portfolios and risk exposures.

✔ Strong analytical capabilities with regular application of technical analysis (TA).

✔ Self-motivated, entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to generate and execute independent trading ideas.

✔ Demonstrable track record within proprietary trading environments.

✔ Candidates with a deep specialism in a single commodity (e.g., Gas or Power) will also be considered, particularly where there is an appetite to develop broader cross-commodity exposure.

Don't miss out on this opportunity, and apply directly!
