The Role Responsibilities

The MicroStrategy Architect/Administrator will be responsible for administering, supporting, governing and maintaining multiple MicroStrategy environments in FSTS Business Intelligence Tools team. In this role, the individual must have a thorough understanding of MicroStrategy architecture and the entire MicroStrategy product suite, administration policies, techniques and methodologies. This is a multitasking role and the individual is expected to support multiple BI BOW and operations teams as well as a large and diverse MicroStrategy user community . This role will report into the Head of BI Reporting.

Mandatory Technical / Functional Skills :
  • Serve as a technical support contact for MicroStrategy. Work with MicroStrategy Technical support to resolve issues requiring vendor assistance.
  • Govern the MicroStrategy environment and continuously optimize the environment via governing settings, VLDB settings, and other mechanisms. Fine tune MicroStrategy project, I-server, and Web server configuration settings
  • Have knowledge to enhance and onboard new capabilities in MicroStrategy
  • Proactively monitor and maintain the stability of the environment by leveraging MicroStrategy monitoring tools, Enterprise Manager Reports, and system monitoring tools such as SolarWinds and HP OpenView
  • Perform user administration, including creation of users and groups, removing inactive users, and conducting license audits to ensure adherence to licensing requirements
  • Develop automated mechanisms for deploying MicroStrategy projects and configuration changes across the various environments
  • Implement MicroStrategy Intelligent Cube creation, management and automation
  • Support development teams for package, object and code migrations across environments
  • Perform package review before migration to make sure it follows the established standards and best practices. Proactively detect any potential issues the package might cause
  • Implement shared attributes and metrics in MicroStrategy semantic layer
  • Deploy and troubleshoot web and mobile customizations developed in MicroStrategy SDK
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation for MicroStrategy environment configuration, development and administration guidelines/standards, support issues and maintenance
  • Maintain onboarding documents and provide onboarding/coaching for new BI employees and contractors
  • Provide regular status reports to management
  • Serve as MicroStrategy SME covering MicroStrategy Architecture, Administration, Hardware platforms and suggesting Technology Roadmap to Director

Our Ideal Candidate

Skills /Abilities and Knowledge
  • Proficient in MicroStrategy administration on Linux and Solaris platforms and writing shell scripts for automation needs
  • Proficient in managing MicroStrategy I-server and web server clusters on physical hardware and virtual machines
  • Experience in designing and implementing disaster recovery strategy and mechanisms for MicroStrategy installations
  • In-depth understanding of IT infrastructure such as servers and storage systems, operating systems, virtualization platforms, and disaster recovery tools
  • Thorough knowledge of MicroStrategy architecture and all components of the MicroStrategy product suite, including
  • MicroStrategy Architect, MicroStrategy Developer, Enterprise Manager, Cube Advisor, Integrity Manager, Object Manager, System Manager, SDK, Distribution Services, Transactional Services, Visual Insight, and MicroStrategy Mobile
  • Familiarity with data warehousing concepts and techniques such as dimensional modelling, star schemas, SQL language and SQL tuning
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skill
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing in a clear and straightforward manner with a broad range of technical and non-technical users and stakeholders
  • Ability to handle multiple concurrent projects and tasks
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, make decisions and solve problems while working under pressure
  • Ability to work both independently and in collaboration with other team members
  • Proactive and focused on results and success; conveys a sense of urgency and drives issues to closure
  • Should be a team player and leader, flexible, hardworking, and self-motivated and have a positive outlook with the ability to take on difficult initiatives and challenges
  • MicroStrategy 10 Certified Application Administrator
  • MicroStrategy 10 Certified Application Engineer or MCE / MCEP certifications are big plus

  • Bachelors degree in Information Technology or related field, or equivalent experience

Related Work Experience
  • 6-8+ years IT experience in the areas of Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence
  • 5+ years of MicroStrategy administration, including installation, configuration, monitoring and upgrades in large-scale enterprise environments on Linux platforms
  • 3+ years of experience in using the below components in MicroStrategy
  • MicroStrategy integrity manager and creating automated reusable templates/components to enable automatic validation after code migration, version upgrade
  • MicroStrategy command manager to automate administrative and configuration tasks
  • MicroStrategy Architect and defining, ensuring optimized schema objects layer in MicroStrategy metadata layer
  • 5+ years of experience working in a mixed methodology environment (Agile / waterfall / hybrid)
  • 3+ years of experience working with a blended onsite and offshore staffing model and leading offshore team members on the technical deliverables
  • Experience in creating MicroStrategy java based SDK customizations and plug-ins
