Lead Java Software Engineer

Research notes is the strategic platform for supporting authoring, search and distribution of text based research across Asset Wealth Management and is developed in house using a Marklogic noSQL database combined with a java middle tier and multiple user interfaces including desktop and iOS mobile application. This exciting global programme is currently focused on a migration to micro services and the cloud alongside the onboarding of multiple new product lines and business processes across the group.
Research Notes Technology is a successful and innovative software engineering team with a flat organisational structure adhering to DevOps and agile practices, however we are keen to continue to evolve our practices and quality to compete with the strongest technology firms.
The successful candidate will help drive the Research Notes platform to a cloud native architecture, implementing patterns such as CQRS and event sourcing. They will also be responsible for the end-to-end delivery of large development items for the Research Notes platform, working on requirements with portfolio managers and research analysts through to implementation and delivery.

This role requires a wide variety of strengths and capabilities, including:

  • Advanced knowledge of application, data and infrastructure architecture disciplines
  • Understanding of architecture and design across all systems
  • Working proficiency in developmental toolsets
  • Ability to collaborate with high-performing teams and individuals throughout the firm to accomplish common goals
  • Proficiency in Java and Spring
  • Understanding of software skills such as business analysis, development, maintenance and software improvement
  • Understanding of Web Services and experience working with Service Oriented Architectures
  • Able to demonstrate the ability to use a variety of software engineering tools to solve complex problems.
  • Understanding of RESTful architectures and JSON
  • Knowledge of noSQL databases
