Team Background

The Mortgages Reporting Team plays a key role in the communication to the senior Mortgage Executives, for Financial Reporting, Technical Accounting support and management of the Issues Under Management. There are 4 distinct areas to the team;

The first concentrates on the Communication and coordination of the month Mortgage Financials, through detailed variance analysis and value adding insightful commentary, while also acting as the Finance lead for the IUMs and balance provisions.

The second is responsible for the delivery of the Core NII & Funding month end story, using information sourced from a combination of MI data & the general ledger, as well as supporting any bespoke regulatory request.

The third is responsible for the Technical Accounting elements for the Mortgages (inc EIR & Forecast Governance), and the delivery of the Mortgages OOI reporting output, covering reporting of General Insurance, Valuations & the Protection (life Insurance) business.

The final is responsible for the production of the BMS & Book Movements packs, which provides detailed insight into the movements in the Balance Sheet through understanding of individual balance flows and the associated impact on Income.

Colleagues in the team benefit from a particularly wide-ranging view of the Mortgages business and have significant exposure to senior executives. The role provides an excellent opportunity to increase your breadth of knowledge across both businesses and requires some flexibility around working patterns.

Job purpose, accountabilities & deliverables

This role sits within the Core NII & Funding team, leading the reporting and communication of key Mortgages metrics.

Leading the team responsible for the preparation of insightful written reports to influence the senior executives - including the Lending FD and Mortgages Commercial Director - and inform their communication with stakeholders in the wider Mortgages business.

Supporting the Mortgages Reporting Senior Manager in delivering high quality written reports and presentations which articulate business performance to the Mortgage executives (including the FD and Commercial Director) and other senior stakeholders in the Mortgages business.

Forge enduring business partnerships with the Finance and Commercial functions. Continuously improve the service offered to internal customers, while also challenging stakeholders on relevant assumptions as needed.

Gather, analyse and understand relevant drivers that impact the Core NII/Funding performance. Support decision-making by the senior executives by clearly articulating the movements, implications and recommendations of performance against forecast.

Oversight of the Core NII/Funding journals, ensuring controls and Group Minimum Standards are adhered to, so that conversations with internal audit run smoothly.

Generate a deep understanding of the Mortgages Month End reporting suite that sits in TM1. Pro-actively identifying improvements to the reporting processes which lead to better insight, efficiency and control.

Support requests for more bespoke insight into the book performance, focussing on Margins and more granular splits of the Mortgages Income and B/S.

Champion a robust control environment over the reported values, consolidation and outputs. Ensure inputs reconcile to data sources and outputs are reviewed and approved. Ensure processes and information complies with audit requirements.

Develop your team by setting stretching goals and coaching to maximise their contribution. Provide regular, open feedback and help colleagues develop their careers. Ensure they have a balanced scorecard, development plan, monthly 1:1s and semi-annual appraisal.

Key Skills & Qualifications

  • Ability to build productive business relationships, co-ordinate and influence a wide variety of stakeholders to deliver information to exacting deadlines.

  • Experienced in analytical review and variance analysis of financial information.
  • Proven ability to construct clearly written reports, which are used to inform debate with Senior Executives.
  • Pro-active approach to leading projects to improve efficiency, control and value-adding insight.
  • Experienced in driving efficiencies and managing change to create greater insight for the business.
  • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills.
  • A relevant financial qualification or MBA would be required.
