You will be a member of the Global Client Computing (GCC) Engineering Team. Your primary focus will be the engineering and design of multiple systems and programmes rolling out across the organisation. You will work closely with other service areas within Technology Infrastructure such as Network, Data Services, Project Office, Engineering and Architecture teams to ensure that appropriate tools and processes are in place to aid in their operations.

Department Description

The Global Client Computing (GCC) Engineering team is responsible for engineering and delivering solutions and infrastructure to support Fidelity's global desktop, laptop, virtual desktop and thin client estate. The estate includes around 18,000 virtual desktops in 10 datacentres, 4,000 PCs, 3,000 laptops and 8,000 thin clients and supporting infrastructure across 26 countries.

Purpose of your role

The incumbent will be a member of the Global Client Computing (GCC) Engineering Team, reporting to the GCC Engineering manager. The primary focus of the role is the engineering and design of the following:

  • Azure Core Services - Network, Access Control, build pipeline, Window 2012/16 server build, monitoring, logging, service integration across multiple regions
  • Configuration Manager and Citrix XenDesktop integration
  • Automation solutions for the management, deployment and maintenance of our global VDI estate (on and off-premise) as required
  • End user Analytics
  • Performance Management
  • Capacity Management
  • EUC Automated Testing

Candidates will work closely with other service areas within TIS such as Network, Data Services, Project Office, Engineering and Architecture teams to ensure that appropriate tools and processes are in place to aid in their operations and improve time to market where possible.

Further to this, the role will include training others as part of a centre of excellence, looking to bring up skills across the organisation and ensure consistent standards.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities will be wide ranging across the Global Client Computing space. This includes:

  • Engineering and design of IAAS solutions, Terraform and PowerShell DSC, handover and documentation to operational support teams, change management and providing 2nd and 3rd line support to other Windows Group teams and associated technical teams as appropriate.
  • Developing and maintaining PowerShell scripts and PowerShell DSC used to automate the provisioning of objects and services in Azure, Citrix, Windows 10, Configuration Manager
  • Lead effort to develop technical standards to support and operate technologies within the current or future Microsoft Azure system platform.
  • Provide technical administrative and configuration support for Microsoft Azure platform
  • Ensure systems and automated processes are designed with high availability and data protection in mind.
  • Maintain support documentation and issue tracking using Confluence and Jira
  • Engineer required services to help automate Evergreen processes including:

    Performance management for W10 estate across - EUC estate

    Performance management for new application updates on W10 - E.G Update of Office, or introduction of new services such as TEAMS or Power BI

    Automate processes and governance to on-boarding new services in the W10 estate

    Capacity planning for global VDI estate, including projections for capacity requirements for budget planning

    Monitoring and alerting of VDI estate for capacity issues form Server infrastructure to individual user/VDI issues

    End user Analytics tools to help 1st and 2nd line teams be able optimise the resolution of End user experience issues

Experience and Qualifications Required

  • Extensive technical experience covering the following:
  • High level of expertise with PowerShell and PowerShell DSC
  • Azure IaaS solution design and support
  • Use of Terraform for building infrastructure as code in Azure
  • Citrix XenDesktop
  • Virtual Desktop Infrastructure
  • Azure IAAS core services
  • Enterprise level Group Policy and Active Directory implementation and troubleshooting skills
  • Windows 10
  • Login-VSI or other performance management tools use to help manage impact of new services to VDI estate
  • VDI Management/monitoring tools such as Control-UP
  • Ability to deliver custom solutions (via automation or other products) to address non-standard requirements or provide additional value
  • Exceptional troubleshooting skills in an Enterprise environment

  • Strong understanding / experience of the following products/technologies:
  • Remote access technologies and troubleshooting
  • Active Directory and Group Policy, Azure AD and ADFS
  • WAN / LAN technologies and principles
  • VMware vSphere
  • System Centre Configuration Manager (Current Branch)
  • Office 365

  • Experience with the following is an advantage:
  • Citrix XenApp
  • PKI infrastructure - Certificate Management
  • Windows Server 2012 R2/2016
  • SQL Server Management and Automation
  • App-V 5.1
  • QA or ITF Management tools

  • Strong documentation skills, communication skills and flexible team player
  • MS certification an advantage
  • Service oriented, with a disposition to take responsibility
  • An ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines, whilst following standard change control procedures
  • Organised with good attention to detail
  • Structured and methodical in problem solving
  • Flexibility to travel between locations
  • Banking or Finance related business experience desirable
