Financial Institutions Group

FIG is the largest team in Investment Banking and executes high profile deals, providing analysts and associates with unparalleled deal execution experience. It is a dominant revenue contributor in the EMEA Investment Banking Division. The group has a decentralised coverage model with a multi-national senior team providing on-the-ground presence. The team is closely integrated with key product teams across Global Finance (Equity Advisory and Debt Capital Markets, Insurance and Risk Solutions Group, etc.).

Sector coverage within the group includes insurers, banks, asset managers, private banks, financial sponsors with investments in FIG sectors and specialty finance (consumer finance, leasing, etc.).

The FIG group has recently advised a number of blue chip financial institutions on key corporate finance transactions. Selected recent deals include:

  • Financial advisor to Permira on the acquisition of Towry by Tilney Bestinvest
  • Sole financial advisor to Zurich on the acquisition of the life insurance business of Macquarie in Australia
  • Financial advisor to the Government of Serbia, EBRD, IFC on the sale of Komercijalna
  • Sole financial advisor to Ageas on the acquisition of AXA Portugal
  • Joint Book runner on placing and open offer and Joint Corporate Broker in connection with the merger of Just Retirement and Partnership
  • Sole financial advisor to Covea on the acquisition of 5.64% stake in SCOR
  • Financial advisor to MSI on the acquisition of Amlin
  • Sole financial advisor to ABANCA for the outsourcing of its Depositary Activities to Cecabank
  • Financial and strategic advisory on SFPI-FPIM Shareholdings including Belfius and Ethias
  • Advisor to the Hellenic Republic on the Strategic Plan for the management of NPLs

Key tasks

  • Assisting in execution of on-going deals within the group, e.g. M&A transactions, capital raising etc., with focus on insurance transactions
  • Supporting senior bankers delivering strategic advice to clients, with focus on insurance clients
    • Strategic idea generation
    • Preparation of pitch book and discussion materials
    • Data analysis
    • Modelling (operating models, capital models, merger models, LBO, etc.)Skills and qualifications
  • Experience of working within Investment Banking, Transaction Services/ Corporate Finance Group of Big 4 Accountancy Firm, boutique advisory firm with a focus on Insurance, as well as within a Corporate Finance/ M&A team of an insurance company
  • In addition to English, proficiency in a European language (preferably German and Spanish/ Portuguese) would be highly desirable
