The Bank publicly aligns to the UN Sustainability Goals and has made a global commitment to the environment by announcing a new Sustainability Statement and launching its mid-term.

The Bank recognises that it must now develop and implement a strategy relating to this work and therefore the Head of Sustainability Strategy will be required to operate within this global framework and lead the EMEA firm's work initiatives relating to Sustainability, ESG and Climate Change.

Exciting opportunity to be the Head of Sustainability Strategy (Senior Executive Director) EMEA for a leading Corporate & Investment Bank in London

  • The Head of Sustainability Strategy will be responsible for leading, developing and ensuring the implementation in EMEA of The Bank's strategy and framework relating to Sustainability/ESG/Climate Change for all areas of the firm.
  • The Head of Sustainability Strategy will lead and manage The Bank's "EMEA Sustainability Programme (the programme)" in EMEA, which has 4 project streams.
  • Each project streams will be reported to the Head of Sustainability.
  • The Head of Sustainability will be required to attend relevant committees such as the New Product Committee, the Reputational Risk Committee etc and be involved in their decision making processes.
  • The Head of Sustainability will represent EMEA The Bank on sustainability initiatives when communicating with external parties including regulators, clients etc.
  • Project streams of the programme and examples of the responsibilities of the Head of Sustainability Strategy are as follows:
    • Business Development - Lead the setting of both organisational departmental KPI targets and guidelines/benchmarks for sustainable business
    • Product Enhancement - new products related to sustainability finance
    • Risk Control
    • Governance & Communication
  • Leadership - leading project teams

Profile

Exciting opportunity to be the Head of Sustainability Strategy (Senior Executive Director) EMEA for a leading Corporate & Investment Bank in London

  • In depth knowledge of UN Sustainability Developments Goals, EU taxonomy, TCFD, various sustainable finance principles such as EP4, and an understanding of the Conference of Parties UNFCC (COP) goals and the principles of the other major sustainability/climate change/ESG regulations.
  • Familiarity with the public sector and with the relevant policy making bodies (But a candidate with a pure public sector background is unlikely to be a good fit).
  • International and extensive experience of sustainable/ESG financial products including green loans/bonds and sustainable linked loans.
  • Scientific/academic background in Sustainability/ESG/Climate Change with experience as a strategy adviser/consultant.
  • Proven track record of developing and leading teams in a major institution, either public sector or private sector, such as a global bank, a major regulator or international agency leading and developing strategy on Sustainability/ESG/Climate Change activities.
  • Proven track record of successful decision-making, problem solving and conflict resolution
  • A leader who promotes collaboration and good teamwork
  • Excellent good oral and written communication skills in English and an ability to communicate complex proposals.
  • Previous experience leading teams across multiple disciplines
  • Ideally able to communicate in another major international language, in addition to English
  • Good relevant degree from a leading university
