Operations Analytics - Assistant Director (Senior Manager)

The Opportunity

Underpinning everything is our focus on developing a talented team through investment in technical and commercial training and knowledge transfer. Our Operational Research and Advanced Analytics team within business modelling and data analytics is a rapidly growing team that applies a wide range of data analytics and Operational Research techniques to solve clients' physical and operational problems across all industry sectors. As an Assistant Director within the team you'd take on business development and client responsibilities and have the potential to gain excellent career progression. As part of your role you would work a varied portfolio of data analytics, Operational Research, transaction-related and performance improvement projects, which would include complex data analytics for clients, database builds and management as well as model development. Although our team are largely London based, we operate as a national team and many of our engagements involve multi-national clients. There would likely be travel in the UK and could require working overseas from time to time.

Your key responsibilities

As an Assistant Director you will be part of the leadership team in Operations Analytics. You'd work with clients to identify their particular needs, to design and specify appropriate solutions to satisfy these needs and implement these solutions. You'd actively manage the life-cycle on modelling and data analytics assignments and take a leading role in the design and build of complex solutions, manage development assignments and supervise the project team, providing on going guidance and support. In addition you will be identifying opportunities and lead sales activity, working closely with senior staff from across all service lines to identify and pursue opportunities. This will involve the development of solutions containing complex algorithms within a highly user-friendly front-end so familiarity and experience with packages and development environments is highly advantageous but not essential.

Skills and Attributes for success

  • Highly numerate - having a strong technical knowledge is key. You'd build data analytics and business modelling solutions a variety of techniques, including formal Operational Research approaches such as optimisation and/or simulation
  • Business development - significant experience of selling and operating engagements in a consulting or other professional services environment.
  • Stakeholder management - strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to manage client communications and build enduring relationships
  • Project Management - strong experience of managing an analytics solution through its life-cycle- requirements definition, specification, data collection, solution design, development, documentation, implementation and user training
  • Business understanding - strong understanding of business issues and how advanced analytics and modelling can be applied to improve decision making
  • Technically minded - you'll be developing complex analytics solutions using a range of data processing, visualisation and modelling tools. Advanced experience in Excel (VBA) and experience with SQL, visualization packages (eg Spotfire, Tableau or PowerBI) and modelling languages (eg R, Python or SAS) are highly desirable
  • Communication - communicating effectively with the engagement partner, clients, and other members of the team that you will coach, in a concerted effort towards delivering work products of the highest standard
  • Risk Aware - you'll manage Work In Progress assignments and identify risks where appropriate

To qualify for the role you must have

  • A strong academic background, e.g. Degree in Operational Research, Statistics or equivalent in a numerate or analytical subject
  • Previous direct experience of working within or providing specialist modelling/analytical support for operational performance improvement, or developing analysis which underpins strategic changes
  • Direct experience of business development and selling analytical solutions in a consulting or professional services environment
  • Competence in using database management software, statistical and predictive modelling and data visualization software

Ideally, you'll also have

  • Strong interpersonal skills and previous experience of working within a similar team within a Professional Services environment
  • A deep understanding and technical familiarity of one or more of the following application areas
    • Supply chain analytics and network optimisation
    • Workforce planning and people analytics
    • Resource management and capital equipment
  • Direct experience with Operational Research techniques such as discrete event simulation, mathematical programming or system dynamics is a plus
