An opportunity for a well-rounded Tax Manager has been released by our client, a reputable and highly successful global corporate and investment bank based in the City/London (currently the office is working remotely/from home). The bank is a well-managed business with a thoughtful business plan and stable business base. They also have a reputation for staff retention, developing the careers of their employees and offering good work-life balance. Lastly, there is an excellent progression path mapped out for the right individual: the role comes with the opportunity to take over from the current Head of Tax in 2-3 years' time.

Role:

  • A wide-ranging and varied role across all taxes (but primarily corporate tax) and covering tax reporting, tax compliance and tax advisory. The role comes with the opportunity to take over from current Head of Tax in 2-3 years, so opportunities to grow and develop one's skills and experience further will be offered.

Purpose:

  • To ensure that the Bank meets its tax obligations in a commercial and sustainable approach, respecting all stakeholders and keeping the bank safe.

Profile criteria:

  • Qualified candidate with either an accounting (ACA/ACCA) or tax qualification (CTA) with experience from the banking or financial services sector
  • Must have experience in a mainstream tax role (i.e. be a tax specialist rather than a finance professional who has elements of tax reporting and compliance in their role)
  • Either experience gained from industry or those with strong experience in a Big 4 or Top 20 practice in a specialist tax role will also be considered
  • Ideally looking for those working in a medium-sized or large organisation
  • Excellent communication skills with good stakeholder management and relationship building skills

What this role will cover:

  • Ensuring all tax compliance and head office reporting is completed within deadlines.

  • Supporting business units with tax advice and partnering on strategic initiatives.

  • Advise on implications and implementation requirements of new tax laws.

  • To act as delegate for the Head of Tax.

Suitable/relevant experience to possess:

  • Working experience relating to a Bank or financial services Plc (either as an employee or advisor)

  • Hands on experience of corporate tax compliance including returns, payments, group relief, statutory accounts and head office reporting.

  • Experience of taxes other than corporation tax (e.g. employment tax, VAT, withholding tax), coupled with the curiosity to resolve issues that arise.

  • An up to date knowledge of recent tax legislation

  • Good background of general tax legislation across all taxes

  • Alphatax experience preferred
