The Guarantee & Wholesale Solutions team originates and structures cash and risk transfer transactions of SME loan and asset finance portfolios. The team executes transactions with SME lenders such as banks and non-bank financial institutions and seeks to address funding and capital constraints these entities may face that prevent them from increasing their credit activity in the small business sector.

The team offers excellent exposure to all facets of a deal, and an opportunity to assume substantial responsibility early on. This role will include but not be limited to; origination and marketing, structuring and financial modelling and market and regulatory research.

Key aspects of the role will involve:

  • Supporting the execution of ENABLE Funding and ENABLE Guarantee transactions;
  • Support the marketing of ENABLE Funding and ENABLE Guarantee transactions;
  • Generating new ideas and help develop wholesale products to maximise our impact on SME lending within a changing market environment;
  • Managing stakeholders such as BEIS, HMT, counterparties as well as service suppliers;
  • Writing credit proposals and managing internal approval processes;
  • Ongoing transaction management after closing, including monitoring credit exposures;
  • Developing good working relationships with colleagues in different areas within the British Business Bank.

Knowledge and experience

The successful candidate will have some prior experience in structured finance or debt capital markets gained with a bank, asset manager, rating agency or an economic development institution. The following skills are also required:

  • strong analytical and financial modelling skills, including cash flow modelling and granular data analysis;
  • strong interest in developing marketing skills and some experience in dealing with institutional counterparties;
  • strong team working skills and an ability to act independently when required;
  • strong problem-solving skills and an ability to think creatively about transaction features and risk mitigation;
  • proficiency in MS Excel and PowerPoint.

The following skills would be desirable but are not essential:

  • knowledge of VBA and MS Access;
  • broad understanding of different securitisation techniques and structures;
  • understanding of bank regulatory capital and the Basel III / CRD IV package;
  • understanding of the SME finance marketplace and SME credit portfolio characteristics;
  • understanding of the European State Aid rules vis-à-vis government capital markets schemes.

Internal and external stakeholders

This role will work closely with the British Business Bank’s internal legal, risk and economic analysis functions. It will also work closely with client counterparties, legal and accounting advisors.


Degree level (or equivalent experience) in a quantitative discipline such as mathematics, econometrics, physics or engineering is highly desirable
