Purpose of Role:

The Finance and Risk Infrastructure and Business Solutions (FRIBS) (senior) project manager will be responsible for collaborating with multiple business and support teams across State Street. This position frames and manages complex projects that span departments and functions across the organization and ensures effectiveness and efficiency of project execution including indirect staff management responsibilities. The (senior) project manager plans and executes projects ensuring teams meet project objectives scope dates budget and success criteria of stakeholders. The (senior) project manager also provides leadership and direction to project teams oversees staff working on their projects and interfaces with dependent projects / teams. The successful candidate will have an excellent ability to manage complex project efforts while building relationships and managing expectations of project teams stakeholders and executives.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Manage the overall deliverables of one or more large-scale projects with multiple teams. Take ownership of project execution and health anticipating risks and issues and escalating appropriately to keep project deliverables on track.
  • Interact closely with all work-stream leads and hold them accountable for timely and high quality delivery of their committed deliverables.
  • Engage with team leads and team members to anticipate challenge and problem solve departures from plan scope discrepancies resourcing issues and/or deliverable quality issues. Document and escalate as necessary to resolve.
  • Where departures are identified and/or needed assess impact across work-streams refine plan and communicate in a transparent fashion about these elements to all stakeholders
  • Understand organizational context and be able to identify and engage relevant stakeholders to remove barriers gain consensus and ensure a shared view of project status
  • Participate/lead project level meetings with project stakeholders and team members; demonstrate comfort facilitating groups at all levels.
  • Manage budget and elevate risks to budget as necessary; investigate and resolve actual vs. budget out of tolerance amounts
  • Implement a standard change control process and communicate to stakeholders and project team members
  • Coordinate and lead overall project communications status reporting risk management and issue resolution
  • As needed contribute to and/or initiate and implement project management standards across the organization. Act as an active member of the project management community to contribute to the project management practice and mentor more junior members of the team.
  • Promote a collaborative cross-business environment that fosters change utilizing the Change Management Framework
  • Maintain effective internal controls and implement corrective actions to address any process or control deficiencies. Maintain a culture of constant improvement within project teams and the project management community.
  • Act in accordance with Risk Excellence and role model Ethical behavior and decision making as part of our Way Ahead foundation.

Level of Education / Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required.

Skills and Experience:

  • 8+ years job related/industry experience in financial services or consulting in a project management role overseeing business and/or technology initiatives and interacting with a diverse stakeholder group
  • Proven ability to translate conceptual ideas into key project management deliverables e.g. scope statements issues management project plans and risk management etc.
  • Ability to facilitate diverse and sometimes conflicting points of view to build consensus and agree go-forward direction on topics like project scope issues resolution resource balancing and prioritization/work timing.
  • Comfortable in ambiguous situations and able to bring clarity to complex challenges for both team members and stakeholders
  • Strong interpersonal influencing collaboration and expectations management skills
  • Strong knowledge of business analysis and project management methodologies is preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint Project Visio Excel and Word required
  • Excellent communication and writing skills required
