This position is with a high performing fixed income fund in London. The catalyst for the hire is growth due to consistent strong performance. The tech team are currently building a new core system to help a more systematic approach to fixed income trading and the fund are at the cutting edge of combining a data driven approach with active portfolio management.
The Quant and Data teams are both working in Python and so the fund is looking hire a Python Developer (the core system is C#) with at least five years overall software development experience. The role has responsibility for developing core Python libraries that will be used across the firm by Quantitative Analysts and Data Analysts. Alongside this, there is responsibility for reviewing code produced by these teams to ensure that all Python code produced within the company is to a common standard and uses common technologies.
Due to the sophisticated approach of the fund, we are looking to speak to developers who have experience in a data driven business / team. Those with experience with event-driven architectures, multi-threading and asynchronous pattern will be relevant. This should be combined with in depth knowledge of Python (3.5>), experience building internal libraries and with Python packaging technologies.
This fund is a collegiate environment and there will be involvement in several different projects simultaneously. All developers are expected to be involved in discussing and architecting new projects, working on a pipeline of development work, and supporting existing software in production.
In terms of characteristics the fund hires are high performing self-starters with low ego and the ability to be pragmatic in their approach to work. There is significant exposure to working with a range of stakeholders across the business (working particularly closely with the CTO directly), so strong communication skills are essential. Good knowledge of standard data structures and patterns would be valued. Candidates should have a genuine passion for software development and a general positive attitude. We expect the successful candidate to have 5-7 years’ experience in a role focused on Python development, though they will consider exceptional candidates with less experience.
As you will be working closely with the business (particularly the Quant and Data Analyst teams), previous experience within Investment Management would be advantageous but is not required. The priority is to find an exceptional Python programmer, so those without financial experience will be considered (if they are able to acquire domain knowledge)
This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly successful and very collegiate fund with a progressive and positive working culture that truly values technology as an integral part of their success.
