QDM Technology Specialist

QDM team is looking for an individual contributor for a Director of Software Engineering .

The role will have three main job responsibilities.

The first aspect of the role is to review technical and functional design for QDM & Credit Daemon.
The second responsibility is analyze performance metrics, suggest changes to improve platform performance.
The third and key responsibility is to work with the Global Development and QA team to go through code reviews and work with development manager to factor technical debt, guide team for technical and functional enhancements.

The other aspect of the role is in-line with CME Group required skill set for role is to work with product team, operations, and other technology teams and represent QDM/Credit Daemon from functional and Technical perspective

Help CME Group build our new next-generation quote driven matching system! As a financial[SA1] exchange, we are responsible for providing the best technology possible to match buy and seller in some of the world's largest marketplaces. This exciting project involves building out a new platform for quote driven matching, a particular type of trading with some interesting challenges. Not only do we solve problems that are typical in software development, we have some unique problems faced in few other industries around response time and regulations.
We use a lot of commonly used tools to build our software: Java 11, Dagger, Gradle, jUnit, Serenity BDD, Docker, Kafka, and Jenkins. But we also use some less frequently utilized technologies and techniques, like JMH, Simple Binary Encoding, UDP multicast, and garbage free java programming. But don't worry if you haven't heard of all those before, we are prepared to train qualified candidates on all the tools and techniques required to be successful.

Principal Accountabilities:
• Coordinates proof of concept planning and execution for new technologies; Participates in research and development; Organizes and presents proof of concept results
• Coordinates definition of department level standards; Participates in defining enterprise level standards; promotes adherence to standards within department
• Coordinates creation and organization of department level knowledge base;
Contributes to department level knowledge base for systems and capabilities;
• Coordinates cross-functional teams within department and business stakeholders to solve technical problems and design solutions to meet business and technology needs
• Contributes to definition of QDM/CD roadmaps with respect to specific programs or goals; Models current and future applications and systems and documenting the architecture.
• Defines and documents architecture and design for data, components, interfaces and data flows for specific system group or major program
Design documentations and reviews
Code reviews
Review performance metrics, accommodate these in design enhancements
Demonstrates skill in language proficiency; Writes application modules and unit tests with minimal guidance. Designs with guidance and codes independently.
Identifies potential opportunities for code optimization. Provides input for code reviews and helps with environment build deployments, release notes and build notices; Reviews code to proactively identify and mitigate potential issues and defects and helps to identify sources of defects as well as troubleshoots various forms of code.
Uses design tools to frequently share and communicate design ideas on larger systems.
Uses patterns frequently, contributing to best practice and process enhancements
Conduct hands on POC's for upcoming technologies/design

Skill set Requirement:
Industry experience in Core Java:
Java basics:
Primitive types and the String object
Java's memory model
Java's Collections framework
Functions, objects, fields, etc.
Java's keywords
Java, advanced topics:
Concurrency in Java and managing shared mutable state
Docker Swarm
Kubernetes
Good understanding of Network design, Hadrware, SolarFlare cards Functional knowledge of matching, credit and good understanding of currency & Fixed Income instruments
Understanding of SDLC, JIRA, Confluence
Industry experience in Core Java, collections, threading etc.
Good communication skills

Ability to translate business problems into working code

Ability to use tests to your advantage while implementing software

Ability to ask questions of peers when there are gaps in understanding

Required Tools: Git, bash/ksh(basics)

Equivalent tool experience required: Jira, Confluence, Gradle, IntelliJ

Preferred tool experience: Docker, Jenkins, ansible

Preferred low latency programming experience

QDM development team is in Chicago. These resources will be working on EBS CME Integration, Fixed Income and Technical Debt
