DWS is seeking a Senior AWS Data Engineer to lead a high-profile data platform transformation program migrating legacy SAS data workloads to a modern AWS + Snowflake Platform.

This role will play a key part in designing, building and optimising scalable ETL/ELT data solutions across AWS and Snowflake environments, with a strong focus on modern data engineering frameworks, data warehousing concepts, and large-scale platform transformations; ensuring functional equivalence, performance and data integrity of migrated workloads.

The role will involve:

• Analyse and reverse-engineer legacy SAS programs, macros and DI Studio jobs to document data lineage and business logic
• Re-engineer SAS ETL logic into Python, PySpark, SQL pipelines on AWS (EMR, Glue) and Snowflake
• Design and implement data ingestion, transformation and curation layers in Snowflake (staging, conformed, consumption zones)
• Build automated data reconciliation and validation frameworks to certify migrated outputs against SAS baselines
• Optimise AWS Redshift and Snowflake workloads for cost and performance (warehouse sizing, clustering, partitioning)
• Support migration of SAS analytical/statistical workloads to SageMaker and Python-based frameworks
• Orchestrate pipelines (Airflow/MWAA or equivalent), implement CI/CD for data code, and contribute to platform standards
• Collaborate with BI engineers, analysts and business SMEs to sequence and de-risk cutovers; support parallel-run and decommissioning activities

Essential skills & experience:

• Deep expertise in AWS data services including S3, EMR, Redshift, Glue, Lambda, IAM and SageMaker
• AWS Certifications: Data Engineer (Associate) strongly preferred
• Strong experience designing and building data solutions within AWS cloud environments
• Strong hands-on Snowflake: SnowSQL, performance tuning, RBAC, data sharing, Streams/Tasks
• Expert in Python (incl. pandas/PySpark) and advanced SQL
• Proven Big Data processing experience (Spark on EMR or equivalent)
• Solid ETL/ELT design and development across large, complex datasets
• Demonstrable delivery on large-scale cloud migration / data platform modernisation programs (source-to-target mapping, reconciliation, cutover)
• Dbt design and development skills, which is an integral part of target platforms and used for transformation pipelines
• Data modelling (dimensional/3NF), data quality and lineage practices
• Experience with modern data storage and analytical file formats including Parquet and Iceberg
• Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts including Slowly Changing Dimensions (SCD) and Change Data Capture (CDC)
• Experience designing and supporting enterprise-scale data ingestion and transformation solutions

Highly desirable:

• Ability to read and interpret SAS code (Base SAS, SAS Macros, PROC SQL, DI Studio) - highly regarded
• Experience with SAS-to-cloud conversion accelerators (e.g., LeapLogic, SnowConvert, custom code converters)
• Orchestration: Apache Airflow, AWS MWAA, Step Functions
• IaC & DevOps: Terraform, CloudFormation, Git, CI/CD (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, CodePipeline)
• Streaming/ingestion tools: Kinesis, Kafka, DMS
• AWS and Snowflake certifications (e.g., AWS Data Analytics Specialty, SnowPro Core/Advanced)
• Experience within Australian enterprise scale banking or financial services environments
